Should A Practicing Christian Visit A Psychic For Consultation?

People have been visiting Psychics for ages...

There are many people who visit psychics regularly regardless of their religion or faith. Some visit them just for fun based on the advice of their friends, while some visit them because they actually believe that psychics really have special powers that can help in dealing with the most pressing issues in their life. As a matter of fact, consulting psychics for advice is a very old phenomenon, which has continued unabated more because of cultural beliefs than religious ones. People have "text a psychic" apps installed on their smart phones nowadays to get in touch with a psychic just at the press of a button.

But what does Christianity say about going to psychics?

Although there might be many practicing Christians who visit psychics for advice, but the religious view of Christianity has a completely different outlook about psychics. Christianity looks at psychic reading as an occult, and strongly advises practicing Christians to stay away from going to psychics because of a number of reasons...

1. Psychics are known to communicate with the dead

It is a common knowledge that psychics communicate with the dead or talk to mediums or spirits to seek an insight into the future. In the book of Deuteronomy chapter 18, Bible clearly states that trying anything that relates to contacting the dead, spirits or mediums is strictly prohibited. It also says that anyone or anybody who indulges in things such as divination, sorcery, witchcraft, spell casting, interpretation of omens, will be detestable to God.

2. Psychics are Frauds

The Christian view about psychics is that they are nothing but frauds, because there is no proven evidence to suggest that what they say or predict about future is true. Psychics often indulge in making generalized statements about things and manipulating their clients into believing what they are saying is true. This is a common trick used by psychics to trap unsuspecting clients in their trap and that's how they extort money from people. Bible also says that as Christians, people must understand that nobody has the power to predict what is going to happen in the future. Only the God knows what is going to happen in the future.

3. Psychics are a part of occult practices

Christianity also holds the view that psychics are a part of occult practices that also include tarot card readings, palmistry and horoscopes. All these practices primarily deal with helping people look into the future, which is a highly contentious issue when looked from a Christian lens. Because Christianity believes that it is God who is eventually responsible for controlling the future and that's why it is only God who has the power to predict what is going to happen in the future.

To conclude in the end...

When it comes to occult practices like psychic readings, Christianity holds a very clear view in this regard. It clearly advises practicing Christians to abstain from such occult practices because they are detestable to God.
